All students in grades 6-8 are required to take a full year of English. In grades 6 and 8, students receive additional support in writing across the curriculum through the Literacy Course.  Course requirements are structured as follows:

Elective courses include: SAT Prep, Intro to TV and Video, Broadcast Journalism, and Digital Journalism.  These elective courses may be taken in addition to but not in place of required courses, and credit for elective courses does not count toward the 20 credits of English required for graduation.

Activities for students include the school newspaper, yearbook, drama guild, and Stone Soup,  the BHS literary magazine.
