BHS Project
Braintree High School
In 1972, Braintree High School was built for 3,500 students. As would be expected after 48 years of use, many of the classrooms are no longer used for the types of courses for which they were designed. Although none of these facility challenges are surprising considering the age of the building, the funds required to conduct the type of full-scale renovations needed to both update existing systems and infrastructure, as well as create spaces that promote 21st century teaching and learning, are beyond the capacity of a year-to-year operational budget and available capital funds.
For these reasons, the most critical step for Braintree High School within the BPS Master Facilities Plan is the submission of a Statement of Interest (SOI) to the MSBA.
Statement of Interest (SOI)
Submitting an SOI is the first critical step in the MSBA's program to partially fund the construction, renovation, addition or repair of Braintree High School. The SOI allows the Town of Braintree and Braintree Public Schools to inform the MSBA about deficiencies that exist at Braintree High school and how those deficiencies inhibit the delivery of our current educational program.
2018 SOI
On April 3, 2018 Braintree Public Schools submitted their first SOI to MSBA for BHS replacement or renovation
2019 SOI
On April 12, 2019 Braintree Public Schools submitted a second SOI to MSBA for BHS replacement or renovation
2020 SOI
On March 2, 2020 Braintree Public Schools submitted a third SOI to MSBA for BHS replacement or renovation
2021 SOI
On May 16, 2021 Braintree Public Schools submitted a fourth SOI to MSBA for BHS replacement or renovation
2022 SOI
On March 10, 2022 Braintree Public Schools submitted their fifth SOI to MSBA for BHS replacement or renovation
Feasibility Study
The Town of Braintree and Braintree Public Schools are requesting funding for a feasibility study. This study will help guide our project to determine educational programming, initial space summary, document existing conditions, establish design parameters, develop and evaluate alternatives, and recommend the most cost effective and educationally appropriate long-term solution.
Estimated Cost:
$1.5 million
